Hi everyone, first post for me. Still learning in my flexifoil standard buggy, but managed 24.4 mph on Wednesday at the beach (cruden bay, aberdeenshire) - feels much faster! Would be interested to know just how fast people push these little buggies. Nice empty beach with an onshore wind, great fun.

That's about right :)

Would suggest you take it easy building up your speed as the standard Flexi is very light and sensitive the higher you go. 40+ is a good achievement on a standard one. A wide axle and midis and a decent seat will push that further towards 50. After that probably best to upgrade. Watch for welding cracks where the side rails bolt to the down-tube; a common failure point.

Be safe.

I think probably my fastest inland kite is my 4.9 Mk III Blade. Now, the Blade isn't the fastest kite but it has quite a bit of wang. It accelerates from zero quickly and on a small field that's gonna be important. Weight of the buggy is massively important. Racer/cruisers on small fields are rubbish IMHO of course.

Ha, I guess I should have checked before asking for a category that already exists. Thanks for pointing that out.

But what you also have to realise is that, that 62mph was set up on the biggest piece of grass in Britain probably not your average field. Not taking anything away from the rider cos that's a huge speed whatever. Reading about his tyre starting to distort shows the loads he was putting on the buggy.

Ok, sorry but I have to play the "dumb American" card... Mick, when you have referred to a "football pitch" (here and elsewhere) I didn't realize that this was an actual objective measurement ... In the states the term "pitch" typically refers to throwing something... That said, you saying "three football pitches" I thought you meant a subjective measurement roughly equal to as far as you could toss or kick a football three times... Dumb American....

Stateside we would say "the length of three football fields" which sounds huge to me. I've only just found a field that big to use... More frequently I ride a field that is roughly 1.5-2 football pitches in size, diminished by wind shadows.

2 countries separated by a common language, right.

Just aside, the fastest I've been on grass is just over 22 mph

Here's mine

I use about 2/3 of the field (limited by wind shadows) on the far right of the park (runs are mostly north-south) and it's probably the equivalent to 1.5 football pitches/ fields... Average wind hovers around 10-12 mph so it's hard to get going fast... Let's just say I'm good at turning :D

Here's me hitting 21.1mph on that field Monday afternoon:

OK I'll try and get you a bit quicker. First off, the wind was so low, I'm actually surprised you hit 21. Not sure if that kite would be my choice for speed tbh. Now, no doubt its great in plenty of wind but I'd go for the lowest aspect kite you have on a field like that. The way the kite folded was an indication to the low wind and aspect of the kite. A fatter slower kite would be more tolerant I think.

Ive been in situations where full blown race kites don't stand a chance against an old fatty.

Sol, go to the next section, the forum helpdesk and ask admin to clear your box. :D But heres what I was gonna send. No point depriving my public I guess.

Hi sol,

great to chat across the Atlantic. I have a nice place to play but I can only go there thro the winter. Too mant ppl and bad winds thro summer but when winter comes, its crazy. Its a disused quarry where they used to dig rocks. The hills are 400 ft high at up to 60 Deg pitch. The wind at the bottom is 10 mph. By the time it gets to the top its 55 mph. MENTAL is not the word. We regularly hit 40 mph going UP the hills. Way to dangerous going fast down hill. Heres a little vid made by my Daughter a few years back.
