hi, are there any fliers in the county durham or tyne and wear area. i am pretty new to this and have only been flying for about 6 months and would love to meet up with some other kiters in the area. If there is anyone out there and fancys meeting up or can suggest any good spots, (i usually fly either in a field close to my home or at Seaton Carew beach), please get in contact.

Hi Dave,

Where you are its probably 50/50 to get up to the sunderland lot who can be found mostly on the airotherapy (sunderland kiteshop) forums,

and the redcar lot who can mostly be found on appozone forums, also rpkc forums.

I used to have the kiteshop at Redcar and am still doing lessons, supplying kites, buggies, boards, etc.

Give me a shout if you want any further info, kite demos, lessons, etc ?

Cheers Simon

Hi again Dave,

Bit more info on NE now I have a minute...

Redcar - Best beach for buggy/landboarding in NE and where most powerkiters in region head for.

Mix of freestylers (worth watching), recreational buggy/landboarders and even the 'odd' buggy race pilot :)

Few ladies and kids get down too so good friendly family atmosphere.

Several spots for kitesurfing with every wind direction covered except S (when we go to north gare)

Note. Traction (buggies/landboards) should stay up to the left of the carpark in front of the dunes, not directly in front of car park. Keep well away from other beach users, dog walkers, horses.

More info here - http://rpkc.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18&Itemid=34

Shields/Sunderland - Mostly landboarder/kitesurfers more likely to be found on the water at the moment. Quite often at Redcar (paddys hold in river mouth) in a SW.

airotherapy forums - http://www.kiteboomerangjugglingshop.co.uk/forum/default.asp

Seaton - Not 100% sure whether traction (landboard/buggy) is actually banned there but it is frowned upon due to limited size of beach so best coming down to Redcar if you take to wheels of some sort. Kitesurfing ok as you're straight out onto water. Static flying shouldn't be a problem as long as you respect other beach users.

Airotherapy has moved.

http://highasakiteairotherapy.lefora.com/

Seaton Carew, Kitesurfing is restricted mainly during the summer months between certain point's on the main beach and it's made clear on the information boards at the carpark, there is no mention of any retrictions for land based activities but best avoided during the summer altogether.

Sealsands or chemworks has no restrictions as such other than common sense for other beach users, it IS a SSI site, the dunes at the south end are fenced off and should be avoided.

certainly not "frowned upon" and dosnt get very busy at all & regularly patrolled by armed energy police which tends to keep the quadbike riders well away.
