RossRobObey
17 and you're already kicking the Mrs out?! Guys these days, if they've got a pulse we'll marry 'em
LoKi_79
if all the occupants are students then you don't have to pay council tax. but even if one occupant is working and the rest are students, then the household will be charged 70% of the normal council tax rate. other costs are fairly low if you are renting, since all the maintenance and upkeep are the responsibility of the landlord. mkratty
rent (mortgage),council tax ,gas ,water ,electric, telephone ,home and contents insurance ,food are just the essential items .
LoKi_79
if you are renting you only need contents insurance (about £80 a year), since the landlord will have buildings insurance.

cookie121
TV license only if you plan on plugging into mains power, if run on batteries you don't need one only if you plan on plugging into mains power, if run on batteries you don't need one I thought you didn't pay if it wasn't connected to an aerial:confused::confused: Both wrong if you own, or have a TV capable of receiving TV signal you need a licence, that also includes computer TV cards. technically you still need a licence to receive BBC radio stations too, but not enforced, however if you are a wiz and want to tweak the frequency modulator so to render the BBC channels as un-receivable then you may a case in court, but then it wouldn't be a TV anymore, more a box and you would save on radio times....hope this helps. Marcus, my advise would be unless work is permanent and wages good, then don;t do it unless pushed. Although home life can be tenuous occasionally, life outside can look greener, but can quickly become a nightmare to the unprepared and expensive. This becomes a strain on free-time and relationships as to be able to afford to have free-time, you need to work longer or earn more (vicious circle). Theres also having to do your own washing up, washing, cooking waking yourself up for work.......god why did I ever leave, got to go now, need to ring my Mummy...... The Geoff
I think he meant me - very much in Scotland. We do pay water/sewerage rates, but they're lumped in with the council tax.

craig.w1599968638
Thats not right if you have any TV that is capable of recivieng a TV pictures you have to pay a TV licience, batterys or not and even if you unplud the antenna they will still have ya .......that includes Sky/cable TV......and it no longer matters if you "detune" BBC stations etc, that all changed last year. TV license only if you plan on plugging into mains power, if run on batterys you dont need one
