scottyucl
Hello i have just purchased a land board to go with my blade III 4m but im finding it hard to board with this kite. It just wants to drag me up in the air. Can anyone recomend a good beginers kite. Not to big but enough to pull a 14 stone fatty. Cheers Scott
craikeybaby
Possibly a buster or a beamer as they are cheap, because you will want to go back to your blade when you have got the hang of it.
Tweak
Are you being vertically lifted or are you being pulled off the front? Also what winds are you flying in? Are they gusty? Your blade will be fine as a kite. When started boarding i went out with my three meter and kept being pulled out of the straps forwards but this was not really lift it was bad powermanagement. All i needed to do was lean backwards much furthur and fly in lighter winds. If you are being pulled vertically upwards then it is the position the kite is in the sky. If this is the problem read on, To start moving. Put the kite at the very top of the window in the middle (12 oclock position, take care if gusty) then bring you kite down and left to the edge of the window. There will be an initial power surge to which you will have to ride out but once the kite hits the edge of the window (the nine oclock position) the kite becomes less powerfull, less reacting to gusts and no lift. You will be moving left but make sure you dont let your kite fly high or you will be lifted. You might need to pull the kite back towards the 12 oclock position if the winds are much lighter. When you get more confidence and better controll of the board and the kite you can try to move the kite nearer to the middle of the window 12 oclock position. Offshore
As above but I'd go with the beamer - no lift confidence quicker! I'd even say go for a 1.8 or a 2.5 as high wind kites for your bag as well! You'd get the mechanics of landboarding quicker in 7 - 10kts clean air on hard sand with either of these. Start small go big. One of my fave most used kites is the 2.5 beamer.
pornochologist
i weigh the same as you and my first kite four line was a 4m blade III. i brought this kite especially for the landboard. i got the kite first, played around with it for about a month, then brought the board. what i want to say is keep with the kite, i think its just a case of not knowing it that well. now i know my kite inside out and i am fine with it. r2d2
omg..how much wind are you flying a 4m blade in, that it's trying to take you up..? you probably need less wind and then the kite will be more manageable..between 10 and 15mph wind speed might get you going with it.i personally would'nt bother with the smaller kites for boarding as you will need too much wind to get going..it's more fun in lighter wind with a bigger kite. toby888
3.6 beamers are quite a good for begginers on a board.
elli
I had a few kite issues until I got a Buster. Than it all started to click. The Buster is predictable and will not surprise you. It is very hard to luff, even when you make mistakes it will not throw you off the board. The lift builds pretty gradually even after a stall. Not so much lift which is a good thing for building confidence. The handles on my Buster are better than the ones on the Beamer, the Beamer seems too skinny for my hand size. This causes a lot of stress on the forearms. I think the Buster handles are more suitable for an adult than the Beamer handles. E
sukie
you could always geta samurai for light summer winds and then keep your blade for higher winds. its all to do with confidence really, i started witha 4m blade, had same problem as you and it scared me so much then got my sammy and its great!!
