plummet
It suprises me how few people hardwire around the world. To me its what you do in a buggy.
mick
Well Plum, you've had162 views and only 2 replies so either the question was too difficult or something else.
grant965
I cannot remember what hardwire and captive mean but I fly LEIs in the buggy with a harness, nothing keeping me in the bug other than the siderails.
plummet
Hardwire is when you connect the kite directly to the buggy. You don't use a harness.

Ah I thought it was connecting it to your buggy but didnt know about removing the harness. What are the benefits of that? Think it is banned at Ainsdale :/
plummet
Hard wire is the way and the light! Its way safer than riding in a harness. Why? Less chance of being lofted. Because the kite now has to pick up the weight of the buggy too. No chance of being pulled out of the buggy sideways...... the buggy just slides. No change of breaking your ribs with side pull of the kite. You get the added advantage of :--- being able to hold more power do manoeuvers you can't do in a harness rider for hours. Dissadvantage more pain in the arse to launch and land. turtling is interesting

I can see the benifits of this if you are riding on a deserted beach as like you say your bodies taking much less punishment but I'm not sure I'd want to give this a go on a busy beach just in case something went wrong. broraboyan
Having the safety hooked up to your harness would be the best option for this, then there's no worries what happens unless it wraps round your neck if you get lofted and thrown out of the buggy, but what are the chances... Plummet, I like your style ?
broraboyan
Oh I use the lei in the buggy but is a bit of a handful in the flexifoil buggy.
plummet
For a start. When hard wired, you cant fall out of the buggy. You're in for the ride if you loose control of the kite. BUT. The kite flags to safety when you hit the safety release. So its ok. On secondary safety releases the kite completely. The main issue to try and prevent is a line wrap around the rear wheel. That can render the safety useless. However Line wrap around the rear wheel is just as much a danger when using a harness. Probably more of a danger. When kiting among people on a busy beach the same rules apply. Be carefull, don't do silly stunts unless you have clear room downwind etc... Lastly leis have the greatest depower and widest range of all the kites design. You can kite in a lot wider range of conditions and stay safer for a lot longer than the kite designs with less depower and safety features. I would much prefer to use an lei on a crowded beach than a fixed bridle for example.
