Nottsbug
Hi All I've been practising my tricks, now very used to going backwards, sideways, two wheels and upside down too! I've jumped a few times, mostly unintentionally and the kite ends up either bow tied or flutters downwind to the ground as it overflies the zenith. I've tried to redirect the kite, but not figured it out either in my mind or in the air. Any tips on redirecting the kite please? Cheers Stuart
Stvredmond
Hello stu What sort of kite are you using? Depower, fixed bridle? Where are you based? I'm sure there will be a local buggy jumper who might be nice enough to meet up and part some wisdom. If its South Wales you are local to then me and Helen will be happy to meet and help you out. Well done at taking on freestyle buggying, certainly is the best type
Nottsbug
Hi I'm in Nottingham, still to meet anyone local. I'm flying both handles and depower. I've got a flexifoil sabre 9.5 and a pansh Ace 5 and blaze 10 Still getting used to depower.
hel123
I'm sure there's a couple of buggy freestylers towards that way lurking about. I can't help much with the depower side of things but if you are jumping unintentionally then you most probably are not setting the kite up or your buggy correctly hence why you get all the bow ties and puffing of the kite. Have a look at this vid. At 1minute ish there is a good shot of helen showing how the kite has to move to get a smooth controlled jump ( with no bow ties). Can you pendulum jump with just the kite and get soft landings? If so its the exact same movement of the kite when in the bug. Hope this helps a little bit

bartiebat1599968741
You know when your getting up on 2 wheels? You know that point where you can feel the tension between you in the buggy & the kite & you're going to flip onto 2 wheel ..... now? Thats when you send the kite. Get in touch with Phil (cafe racer) for a local jumper. K x

Well done at taking on freestyle buggying, certainly is the best type well from a landboard point of view i'd rather have buggy freestylers around me than the point and squirt boys trying to do 50mph with the kite down real low to get straight line speed - the buggy jumpers are much more aware of there surroundings and while I've had a couple near misse's with buggy jumpers , considering the amount of time I mixed in with em , that's nothing - my local bran is a small area for flying in and if speed buggiers turn up , they take up all the bloody space with their speed and constant low kites - give me a good buggy jumper anytime they are much better flyers generally and safer

mick
OK I'm in. For a buggier, a vertical kite flown by a boarder or buggier is a nightmare. You either have to head down wind of a vertical kite or be 30 mtres at least upwind. You just cannot get past a vertical kite. In my own limited experience a buggy jumper and boarder will only jump down wind. Most of the boarders Ive ever flown with have had very little awareness of kites around them. This is probably why, over my 12 yrs of buggying, I avoid contact with boarders where possible. Of course, this is a generalisation and I'll bet Carol and Slide are great to fly with. For me, travelling at 40 mph, a buggier with his kite 5 mtres of the ground is the ideal. I only have to raise or lower my kite a couple of feet to pass closely to the other buggyers. carltb
you missed the point. buggy racers need all the beach and only want to go in a straight line. racers are ok when flying with other racer but put them in a mixed group of kiters and they don't want to adjust to the situation. kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast kite low go fast Edited February 22, 2014 by carl-the-bullet
Stvredmond
^^^^^^ lol the effort gone in to that post is awesome. It's the smurfers I have trouble with..... Parking their kites all over the only smooth dry patch of beach then leaving their lines and bars all over the place

Not true. Not true. Not true. Not true. Not true. Look mate. I'd never agree with anything about buggy racers but one thing I know for sure. Short of hitting the odd kitesurfer, they are far more used to dealing with multiple kite situations than most kiters. Boarders generally stink. 12 yrs of pain with the kite flyers at the zenith. On our field we can fly 6 buggys. Put one boarder and its 2. Thats a fact.
slide
ted it all depends on beach size - a huge beach is fine , but squashed in a small flying area buggy's flying about at 50 mph with the kite low all the time , does take up all the available room , I know most beaches don't have limitations on the flying area , but a couple do
mick
But Pete, a buggyer flying around at 50mph with a small foil is able to manoeuvre (SP) round, past and thro other kiters. I had a mate who used foils with me. We flew on the quarry quite happily till he went to depower. It was game over. He would be using a 12 PL and I was on a 2.9 Predator. The PL was like a slow moving barge. A ground based kite buggy will always be more predictable to fly with against an airbourne buggy or boarder. Until they have learned to jump upwind that is. Stvredmond
Nah give me race buggies any day over smurfers. At least racers understand about setting kites up in the same area. Smurfers leave kit everywhere... I mean everywhere. Smurfers will leave a 50m radius between other smurfer kit resulting in a pretty polka dot blow up kite pattern across the beach and then no beach to buggy on. Back on topic...... Buggy jumping is awesome though you become very picky on what conditions you will fly in lol. To light it's a bit boring as you can't get Airbourne. To windy then it's generally gusty and a tad dangerous to have a big kite up
