Dragnfly
Efka. Gum tree is populated by total scammers. PayPal will offer you little/ no security or come back on a purchase from gum tree. Tread carefully. Nick1599968727
Paypal is about as safe as catholic birth control methods speaking from bitter experience (paypal that is)

benjy_a
I think you're missing the point...don't send money for anything on Gumtree...the only safe way is to go and pick it up in person. PayPal will give you NO protection. Edited February 4, 2014 by benjy_a

zimmer
Been using paypal for over 10 years, never had a problem. If you're gonna slate a company (or individual), at least cite the issue/s.

broraboyan
I've never had a problem with PayPal, how else can you make a payment to someone you don't know or can't meet?
Dragnfly
Did you get scammed on eBay, because PayPal do offer protection via that route. Not so with gum tree though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

creed
Never had an Issue with Paypal... I've successfully and painfully got my money back on numerous scams. If we are talking about out of ebay purchases then I've had success with that too. My Xbox account was hacked and some little spotty fuck rinsed my paypal buying fifa points. £70 in two minuets! fortunately I had notifications on my phone from paypal so I knew straight away. I phoned paypal and they suspended my paypal link to my xbox straight away, I had to wait a week for the money to go back into my bank account but that was it. With Paypal private sales you need to send money as a purchase and not a gift. If you're asked to gift the money to save the seller on fee's then it's as good as a direct bank transfer, you're not protected. I offer to direct bank transfer the fee if they're really being anal
The Geoff
Common sense is the only real protection. Try to find out about the person you're buying from, if they're genuine there should be at least some public presence you can check out, like a Facebook account or something - if they send you one set up in the last week, or one where they're bragging about ripping people off...well...you know. I bought a van from someone on here on the basis of a few photos and what they told me - they had a low post count but were quite happy to give me the name of a kiteshop where people knew them and could vouch for them being a decent person. Made spending a few thousand pounds slightly less scary. Basically, use the Force. Try to find stuff out about the seller, and if they make you feel a bit twitchy run a mile. Nicolli
Good advice from the Geoff. I tend to let people look at my ebay profile and the positive feedback I've had on there, always worth asking a few questions. Common sense is the only real protection.
