JamesK31
Need more information really, what is your experience level? Entry level to Advanced>> PKD Centuries / Century 2's, bomb proof and plenty fast enough until you decide you want to go faster. Ozone, Yakuza GT, you get out what you put in, inter>advanced full race kite, they are going cheap now due to the release of the Quantum Cooper's cheap entry race kite, not too stable wouldn't give them to a novice, cheap for a reason imo Peterlynn Reactor 2's - entry to advanced not a race kite but fast enough to be a pain Peterlynn Vapor's - full blown race kite, fast, stable and expensive, they do come up second hand at cheap prices but dont stay on sale for long. stuartkiteman
Started with homemade kite's ( going back 20 yrs here ) moved onto to fly razors then Nitro's then sold up ! Slapbasswoody
If you flew Razors, then the Yakuzas are similar but more stable. Still a good fast kite and you can pick them up cheaply. Try to stay with the same make rather than various makes in the quiver. List of kites mainly used for racing and available second hand. PKD Century 1 (old now) and 2 PKD Combat Ozone Razor (old now), Yakuza and GT Libre Spirit Zebra 2 and 3 Butanes PL Vapour PL Reactor 1 (old now) 2 and 2013 Cooper HQ Prodigy

rtz
Really surprised to see all the mentions of the Reactors and no mentions of the Method. Are the Methods just that slow compared to all the rest? Is the Quantum not proving to be the end all be all kite or is it just so expensive it will never become common? I thought if it was so good; it would be the dominate kite in the race scene(much like how the Vapor seems to be common?)?
BladeAddict
Why would anyone mention Quantums or Vapors on a thread about budget race kites?
tvrgreg
Rtz i race with methods and yes they are to slow, but they stay in the air no matter wot. cheap race kites, pkd century 1, u-turn butanes and nitros, ozone yaks.
m14dgt
I agree I loved my Razors and they did me well until I got my GT's And fantastic GT's they were too woody!! rtz
Well budget and race kite can't really be in the same sentence considering the prices. So the used market makes them all options.
Guy Ward
I love my cent 1s.. in the lightweight fabric ..currenrly chasing a 50 mph pb..so even by todays standards these are not slow
mick
Well budget and race kite can't really be in the same sentence considering the prices. So the used market makes them all options. Not strictly true tho is it. As said oilier, many of the older racers eg Boras, Razors, Raptors etc can be picked up for next to nowt and are they really that far behind the latest stuff in the hands of most of us ? @ Gringo. While 50 mph is ok, its hardly race winning as a top speed surely? On that assumption, my Mk 1 Predator would be a contender. Mmm I don't think so. In fact, looking at your impressive list of kites and buggies, I would have thought that 60 mph pb would have been the target.
stuartkiteman
I Still like the idea of a retro race kite buggy race, kite must be more than 10 yrs old ?
youngged
Retro racing has been done at some of the PKA fun events, only problem is thatnot many people who race now have old race kites and the people that do usually arent racers.
