Accommodation, Flight & Equipment Freight Details
I'll be updating both this and the calendar event as we go in an effort to make this as easy as possible for those interested in coming along.

Wondering what The Moose is like?
Here's 20 minutes of Land Kiting bliss...

@gannet @plummet dates?

@Chook @jhn.holgate @roblukin @nigel trip over the ditch?

@SoutherlyBuster you're a kiwi now...

Thanks @gannet

To others looking like they would be interested in a trip to NZ, just as an indicator flights Melbourne to Auckland and return combined $450'ish in total.
Something like a "Juicy Camper" starts at about $50 a day pickup from Auckland airport and return.

Next bit is working out costs to ship our gear over to someone in NZ that would be willing to hold a box for us that lives on the North Island in or around Auckland.

Dr Perrin has spoken,  2016 Moosemeet will be on the 14th to the 17th of October :):):)

Would be better off renting a Subaru Legacy / outback and two can sleep in it. A camper might have a wee bit of trouble getting above the high tide mark

Can ship gear to my work in Greenhithe Ak

What a about Nissan Dualis 2 wheel drive? Is it a problem of power or traction? Took my Dualis to beach at  Kingston in Australia, no worries, but that was all flat. Mind you I would keep well clear of the quick sand. We are on the South Island, so would have to take the ferry across, funny price it it is close to the air trip Joel is quoting.

Oh and forgot to ask, does deep snoring ( @.Joel ) cause liquifaction on the camp site? :)

Cool, I'll look for a 4WD camper.

Thanks for the offer, I spoke with Perrin tonight and he did mention one tidbit and that is shipping to a business address they may class it as stock and add GST.  Anyway I'll look through our customs paperwork and declarations, surely there's an easy way around it.

To all the Australians reading this, time for us to break 20+ years of tradition of not going and GO!

Southerly. Getting on and driving down the hard sand is fin in a 2wd. But  If it hasn't rained and is dry soft dunes you wont make it above the high tide line into the camp site in a 2wd. But. That doesn't matter we have 4wd, tow ropes and carpet. Every year couple of people turn up in 2wd's most the time they make it in. Otherwise we tow em in.

The Southern team have managed to pack their buggies as luggage several times and take them on the plane.

The moose is hands down the best land kiting event all year. Every year it is the best ever moose!! Then the next year it is even better!!

It looks brilliant.

A lot of soft dunes and big buggies though, how would a little PL mk2 on barrows go?

There Is 100km of hard beach if that's what you like. Big foots work best in the dunes. But barrows still work. The dunes can be very hard if its rained or very soft if it hasn't rained for days. Very soft would mean you would need more power to pull you around the dunes.

But. That time of year there is pretty much some rain before or during the moose. So the dunes are typically hard to semihard.

A big ask on 2016's calendar Joel.

3 weeks for Kingston in January,

a month for Yeppoon over Easter

6 days at Lake Lefroy 26th Sept

and also NZ.

BUT!!!! Yeh bugger it............... I cant say never all my life.

I'm in.

Got some homework to do............. and some smooth talking to the "holder of all finance" to get it sorted. Have to get her onboard.

I still have leave owed to me from work, so this will blow it away nicely.

Having had a brief buggy with Gannet at Muriwai I'm keen to get over there again - but need to plan and get an idea of costs....   Unlike Chook I don't have much leave to spare and just spent most of my play money on your buggy Joel :cool:.  When you check it out can you let me know what the freight for a buggy might be and I'll decide then.

My wife just said, so you are going then? YES.

@plummet you mentioned some of the South Islanders fly up. Is that generally what they do or is it a mixed basket of drive or fly? Have not checked the drive hours but imagine it as an interesting road trip. Will also mean to update my big car tent as I gave it away back in AU.

Two kite boards, three landboards, kites, tent, camping gear, no buggy, oh and food, be a bit tough to send that by plane.

Ditch one landboard, sleep in the hire car no tent. Food can be purchased in dargaville........ it is possible.

But if you want to drive. Drive and bring all ya gear.  My advice. Allow for Thursday to Monday at the moose meet.

PS normal tent pegs don't work in the sand. Get some sand pegs.

Sleeping in the car, that sounds like punishment. Thanks re the tent pegs, already know that from Kingston, still have the ungukamungka sand tent pegs. Road trip it is then.  Mind you there is always my trusty Macpack 2 man tent, nothing will blow it down and it packs down  well, but suspect we will get a larger tent. Plenty of time for that yet.

So..... If theres some Ausies attending the Moose this year. There needs to be some form of Aus/NZ challenge.

A Dune race perhaps?

Most definitely, winner takes your new carbon mud-gard in a form of "ashes.":D

I've never raced a buggy before!!!!! That would be a great learning curve.

I just need you to knock up a few sets of these before we get over there...
