6004 2RS Bearings

Have a look Gumnuts and see if they are what you need. I'll post you 6 if they are what you need.

What comes around goes around mate. No point being greedy.

6004-2RS 20 X 42 X 12MM

From memory I reckon Rob Lukins were 47mm OD. "6204-2RS" which are 20 X 47 X 12mm. I have wheels that take both sizes.

I'm just sat on Lake Walyungup waiting for the wind to make up its mind (it's anywhere between 2-10 knots) a little bit frustrating. But as I have the buggy here...

mine are 6204-2RS - thanks for the kind offer @Chook but I think they won't fit. 

Mine seemed a bit grindy, despite a good clean after Lefroy, so took things apart and cleaned them again and they are sweet and smooth this morning.

now it's trying to rain!

You popped the seal off one side using the very tip of a knife blade and flushed them out with petrol or thinners and repacked them? I use a degreaser gun and compressed air and don't even remove the bearings from the wheel. If they are rumbly they have ingested salt and will need this doing to them Mark. Repack them with marine grease. If they sound gritty open one side of a bearing up and have a look.  You will soon know. The grease will be black and horrible. I do all my wheels when I get back home that are not fitted with stainless steel bearings. Even these SS ones have been filled with marine grease from new. I'm slowly going over to all SS bearings as I can afford it.

Hi Chook. Without starting a new thread, I recently got hold of new 12mm x 28mm bearings for my MBS land board, and wondered how to clean them up after a session on the beach. How do you pressure pump grease into them? Or how could I pop them open to clean them out of salt? Thanks

A spray with "Inox" the moment you get home is probably fine, if they haven't been submerged in salt water. WD 40 is crap and a waste of time (it's mainly acetone and is gone in a few weeks).

CRC isn't too bad either.

If they have rubber or nitrile seals these can be removed and the bearings repacked, or filled with marine grease from new. Just ease the seal out of the outside groove carefully with the tip of a knife. They clip back into place easily. Practice on your old bearings to get the hang of it so as not to cut the seal. A snap blade knife is perfect for this.

If they are tin shielded bearings, this means exactly that. It's not a seal at all just a dust shield. This reduces friction but also lets the crap in. These are mainly used in clean environments like electric motors, and high speed applications  etc.

The tin shielded bearings can be flushed out with thinners, kero petrol and then repacked using a pressure greaser. I use one of these on my model helicopters as I fly from a gravel field and the rotors generate heaps of dust.

I use a "The greaser" shown down the page here for smaller bearings and leave it in a zip lock bag ready for next time.

Most greases aren't too bad, now days. They have to meet world standards and I don't think any particular brand is any better than the others for our applications. Just get marine or high molybdenum disulphide grease.

Here is how the "Greaser works (down the page is the step by step instructions) they aren't cheap though. Neither are high speed precision bearings that need to do 22,000rpm on a model helicopter or RC car.:eek:

After use if the bearings are gritty or make some noise when spun it's a flush and fill for sure. Lake Lefroy is dynamite for killing bearings If not treated straight away as the salt spray is ingested everywhere. (actually all steelwork) After a beach run with repacked bearings, I just hose the buggy down with rainwater and leave it.

Oh? You were waiting on me sending over the bearings to you for greasing? No sorry. I didn't get that part. I am ok though. I have them running smooth on my wheels, and have placed a large-ish washer over the bearing seal to add extra protection. Seems to work for now. But yeah if I feel them starting to stick, I'll send them over to you. cheers
