plummet
Charlie lost is battle with cancer and passed away on sunday morning. Some of you may have known Charlie by his forum name Fat old whimp. He was an occasion poster here on the kiteforum. His forum name does not do him justice. Charlie founded the Blue balls buggy bash here in NZ some 18 years ago. It was one of the first (if not the first) buggy events in the world. He drove the New Zealand Buggy racing scene and helped pioneer the sport of buggying back when most, if not all of us, on this forum even knew traction kiting exsisted. Here are some words from Charlie discribing his buggying achievements only 2 weeks ago. "I have officially retired from kite buggy riding. I now have a tube coming out of my side. Out of respect for all the medical professionals that have assisted in my recent procedures I though it best not to undo all their work with a stupid incident on the beach. I strarted riding in Dec 1992. I had a few rides over the next couple of years before Lorraine bought our first buggy in 1994. I have only had 3 buggies over the years. Although a spare was left in my shed 10 years ago. It gets used sometimes but never by me. I really enjoy riding a buggy. There have been some busy years and some lean years but I always enjoyed it even if I left it a while. I did a bit of racing and stuff in the early days of the Western Circuit. I wasn't really that good at it got to be quite frustrating so I stopped and chose to be the steward and racemaster. My PB is 77kph. I was first to Nuke the Moose I won the 1995 Moose Meet Freestyle trophy Those are nice to have in the CV but by far my greatest achievement is being part of the founding and Running of the Blue Balls Buggy Bash and the Western Circuit Kite Buggy and board series. With lorraine,Paul, Perrin, Cudby, Gerad, Tangles and Plummet we have organised buggy and now board events from Wellington to Te Paki. We have had championships and adventures and have developed a nice wee community. Playing my part in all this has been one of my life's greatest pleasures". I have only known Charlie of 3 years but in that time we have enjoyed some glorious adventures. Fly the eternal wind in the sky Charlie. Sand-Yeti
Tragic Loss. I'd been chatting with FOW on his FB page 'Power Kiters with Cancer'. I never met him but had lots of fun banter with him on this site as well. His indomitable spirit can only be admired & I aspire to have the strength of character he exhibited. Condolences to all his family & friends. Rest in Peace Charlie
