Self launch/landing kite on grass

As I have no one to help me and I could not really find much on what I was after so I put my kite knowledge to use and have come up with an idea to see if you guys do something similar.

I got 2 sand bags to hold the kite down and have bought a dog anchor the cork screw type to secure the bar end while I walk back and launch the kite. ( In the power zone with light wind and at the edge when it's stronger.)

As there was only enough wind today to just hold the leading edge of my peak up I was unable to test it.

It is easy on the beach to launch because of the sand but on a grassy field it's a bit harder.

Landing I guess i could slowly walk down a steering line to park thekite back on the edge of the window.

I side launch my peak. Here is my procedure. I take the kite out of the bag and lay kite out parallel to wind and weight the upwind tip only. I shake the bridles out a little and unwrap the lines. I hook to my harness and launch. I only need the ground stake when landing. I just grab the oh sh!t stoppers on the steering lines and land it on its trailing edge then stick the steering lines around the ground stake with bar out in front so tension remains on the back lines

Remember to leave the bar pushed out when launching in higher winds. It's easy to panic and pull the bar in which jerks you out of your socks

I had some left over decorative pebbles from a landscaping project.  I put 750 grams of them in an old sock and tied a knot in the sock.  10 sox of rocks for less than $1.  You can move the rock-sox around to suit your take-off, light winds is a downwind take off, heavier winds is a side take off.

I bought a bag of small rocks a long time ago and I cut the bottom 6" off of my used water softener salt bags and fill with a pound of rocks and duct tape closed. I've got several of them and being plastic, they don't get wet

Nylon tubes with velcro or drawstring closures,.. filled with.....  lacrosse balls.

Nylon bag against nylon kite canopy has almost no chance of doing damage.  Lacrosse balls, dense/heavy but round with no sharp edges.

Bag gets wet.... drip dry.

Bag gets dirty, remove lacrosse balls, wash/dry, refill..... no pebble chasing and no sodden sand bags waiting for the mildew pixies to vist it.

Sam
