Looking good if you can get there for the morning low tide on Friday - otherwise Monday is looking the best unless the wind swings in time on the Sunday morning. Fingers crossed...

In other news - bloody old car issues continue. Kombi van threw a torsion bar on the front end as I took the home turn this arvo. Currently at the local garage with a promise to fix tomorrow if a spare can be found. So, I'll be down Friday night or more likely Saturday arvo - In time for the BBQ :)

Wind looks fine too me all day. Buggy / land in the morning, on the water afternoon. There is also Shallow Inlet too.

Regards,

Joel

EDIT: Open the roof of the mustang and just throw the buggy in.

I just looked at all the gear i'm taking....

9 Kites, 2 Boards, 1 Buggy, 2 Eskies, 1 Clothes Bag, 2 Boxes of Drink.:tease:

Seriously wondering how the hell it is all going to go into the car tomorrow morning!

Anyway, that's it for me. See you all Monday Night / Tuesday. Sinbad and Baggsy are left at the helm here... I can't believe I just said that...

Bloody Hell. I just was not supposed to make it to Sandy Point.

- Thurs: Into Geelong to pick up new mobile phone. Turn into my home street on the way back and the torsion bar on the Kombi lets go with a "TWANG". Up to the mechanic...

- Friday lunchtime: Mechanic can't get a torsion bar for love or money. Weld a sleeve on it and says "Nurse it to Sandy Point and we'll fit a new one when you get back. Decide to head down Saturday.

- Saturday: Wind looking ordinary and guests down so go for a surf in the morning. Load up the trailer with all the gear and all set to head off after lunch. Hook up trailer - Kombi won't start. Wiring fault since rebuild (After a fire - that's ANOTHER story) means cant have trailer AND lights AND run the engine... Unpack trailer, cut down on gear, load up Kombi. Drive almost to Korumburra before nursing the last 25km into town at 50km/hr after persistent dodgy noise escalates to loss of power. RACV declare van stuffed and call for a tow - all the way back to Ocean Grove (Total of 7hrs travelling and stuffing about). New mobile wont transfer numbers - made it that close and couldn't call anyone! Happy to be back in OG - will fetch the buggy from the van (Parked out front of the mechanics) tomorrow and get it back down the beach here - photo any good gps results and pretend I'm racing you guys down there. Crap.

98.5km/hr - damn! Managed only 74.5km/hr at OG (Photo of the GPS linked above - couldn't figure out how to get it in here...). Was a good session - 69km travelled over 2 hrs, hit 64.5km/hr with a tandem trailer and 70kg passenger on the back too :)

Would love to have seen how you managed 98 Nigel... was that with the Phantom?? (Or the car?)

Well Andy looks like the photo of the 74.5 will be fastest you travelled:D. By the sounds of your bad luck with the Kombie, maybe you should hook the kite up to the the kombie. ;):D:goofy:

Hi All,

We're back!

And what a GREAT weekend it was!

Arrived Friday lunchtime. Checked the houses, unloaded the cars then Ben & I headed down to the beach. Wind was cross-onshore and very lite, but we got a small buggy in anyway. Saturday the wind was Nth East and howling! So we went to the Inlet where I decided to put up the 4m Ozone Access that was on loan. The kite was damn amazing! Spent the lunchtime zooming around the place on it, pulling some very nice speeds. Then the kite did the rounds as everybody had a fly. Dukey and I were racing up and down, after that Ben and I had a zoom in the two libres. We then all had a BBQ at the main house and enjoyed the night.

Sunday the wind was howling once again, and a very heavy cross-onshore that made it a mission to get back up the beach. As the wind was moving over 30 knots and gusting the sand started moving about the place and rain started to come in waves. Everyone packed up and left as Dukey and I remained out on the beach rain, hail or shine! Screaming down to the point, then doing alot of hard work to get back up the beach.

Afternoon when the tide came in a few went kitesurfing, while Schultzie left Ben and I to play on his G10 in the water. Some very interesting photos there of sand being swallowed, chewed, rammed up the nose, in the eyes etc! Safe to say I still can't kitesurf.

Monday the wind was looking perfect, Pete came back from checking the wind on the beach to say "It's on like donkey kong." Everyone packed their stuff back into the cars, houses cleaned up and off to the beach for our final session before heading home.

We started the race, landboarders 2 laps, buggiers 5 laps changed to 4 laps. So I took my time and put the marker all the way out nearly to the point. A lap took about 15 - 20 minutes to complete. On the second lap Nigel and I were still only a couple of meters apart, each of us being quicker then the other at particular sections of the beach. The laps are so far and long that it tested all aspects of the kites and pilot's ability. However end of the 2nd lap wind picked up a bit, I was scudding and nigel was happily avoiding losing speed on the depower, so meter by meter he pulled away to establish a very respectful distance at the end of the race.

Landboarding Results

1st. Justin

2nd. Wayne

Buggy Results

1st. Nigel

2nd. Joel

3rd. Dukey

Congratulations to Justin Schultz winning a brand new Flexifoil Stacker 6ft complete thanks to Extreme Kites & Kitepower Australia. The prize was a draw between the winners of the two races.

A few things I learn't this weekend....

1. Ozone Access, I now understand why I was told "Everyone should have an access bro." Safe to say that little kite brought great enjoyment to a number of people this weekend.

2. Peter Lynn Scorpion, amazing kite. I had a fly of it in some strong winds and the static jumps and float was amazing. Even more amazing are the photos of Justin getting some huge airs on the kite. Photos of these should appear in the gallery as soon as Gav gets them off the new Extreme Kites camera.

3. Libre Forks aren't as tough as one imagined. After seeing a bent set of libre forks on Ben's new buggy I am quite amazed how destructable the "indestructable" can be when hit with perfect precision and timing :D Chariots... amazing things ;)

4. Libre buggies for comfort are a must. I flew Pete's Libre Vmax this weekend with the extended rails etc, and it was damn comfortable. Literally felt like sitting in a well supported comfy lounge chair. It also felt very very very smooth!

Anyway, i'm off to sleep for 30 mins before I have to go unpack the car. We also have some photos of Justin kitesurfing with the Baseboard! Another amazing site for the weekend.

It was also good to see a number of new faces appear over the weekend who unfortunately had left before the Monday race.

Regards,

Joel

Not to mention my momentary mood changes, cant help it when im tired...

additions to the wrap up...

Saturday night: Wayne and i went to shallow inlet for a twilight kite surf on shallow inlet on the out going tide, was just as much fun as last year and big jumps on the 19's

Sunday, joel i think that the actual wind was closer to 40+ knots when every one packed up this wind also coincides with Nigel's 98kmh run, i Could not stand still while attempting to tune Paul's (macca) new G10 , like i was leaning back and happily scudding down the beach until i was satisfied that it was not an extended gust but actually a squall,

Kite surfing in the arvo, well i was meant to be giving lessons and in hind site i should of launched the v13 for the boys to play on but i will admit i was more worried about trying out the new Scorpian on the water after an extreemely successful session on the mountain board in the morning... and the Result.... huge amount of float a kite i like, but i still love the venom.. but the scorpian does have an edge (will do a report on it after a bit more time on it... )

and to the guys in Canberra, guess what yes you can kite surfin a base board and i only found out because i ripped a foot strap out on my board... it is hard ish to ride better with shoes i reckon... but it went in the waves and i even did a couple jumps on it in the water... but it is still really hard to ride on the sand...

Monday: Light winds... we properly sorted out the scorpion on a setup and it worked really well but Nigel and i agreed that it would of been nice to have a 16m for the wind conditions but he still wooped joel once the wind sorted it self out,

and yeah Great weekend

also Joel... it is SCHULZ....

Sorry to say Andy, it was with the Phantom:D

Dukey downloaded the track log off my GPS and has the file if you want to official it.

I'll wait for dukey to post it up if you want to see over 90kph for a full kilometre!!

Including the average when the top speed was logged over 100 and something metres.

Safe to say the speed wasn't the result of a big gust.

The run I felt even smoother than my previous top speed of 93.8kph.

When I did that run the beach was full of seaweed so I was dodging it, not giving me the best line at times.

I started the run just before the front hit with the rain, rode those nice power surges.

I think I should get some rims and wheels rated a bit higher than their 15kph limit:eek:

A good weekend for me, and I think everyone else had a good time too.

PS: Thanks Schultzie for the loan of the Scorpion 13m, it did very well in the 10 sub 10knots in the buggy race, and it was underpowered!!

Makes amazing apparent wind power!!

Just a quick note to say many thanks for a great weekend.

Apologies for not getting down to the beach - had to run home with my daughter for a birthday party...

I have just ordered a 2m kite as I never seem to have the right size kites with me! I will also be securing a number of arcs after seeing the results in high winds! An access may be ariving from the UK soon with my brother too :-)

Excellent BBQ joel and many thanks for the invite.

When is the next weekend away? Easter?

It was great to meet every one!

Cheers all....

I should let Ben do the talking here.... This happened to his vmax just before he got to the beach. Apparently he was riding the buggy like a chariot and lost control going down the hill, jumped ship, and let the buggy find the only tree with a solid trunk in site. :o. oops.

Yup that's my one!!!!!

I came back up the beach (Dukey and I were out for the whole Sunday lunch to afternoon), looked for it and figured the sand had blown over it. With everyone gone I didn't have good hope of finding it. I used a D-Shackle to attatch the Ozone Access to my harness, so I had to take the whole harness off to wrap up the kite :D

I'll grab it off you next time we bump into each other then. Thanks for letting me know, appreciated.

Regards,

Joel
