There isnt an option, unless they have a Blokart, As has been said already lots of time, there is a Land Yacht Club at Brean they can use.

I'm afraid Brean isn't Weston. Please don't suggest Brean again because this discussion is about Weston, where our customers live.

If people who live in Weston want to use their local beach in Weston with their Mini-Yacht (but which is not a blokart - the brand that you sell) or their Skatewing, or other windsport craft, all of which craft the owners of the beach at Weston, the local council, has agreed are acceptable craft to use as long as the users have insurance, it is nonetheless impossible for them to do so? Is that correct?

Would they not need to contact the council about forming a club with the proper insurances etc.?

The guys have given you all the correct information.

Yout customers... Need to be part of a club for insurance purposes. There is currently no such club at weston. Only Brean. Now how hard is that to understand

Brean BRean

in a nutshell from reading this sounds like you cant use Weston

SWATK = Its a Kite Club

BLSA = BloKarts

Wind n Wheels = BKSA Club

So you can use Brean which is fairly close to weston (sorry tried to say that quiet as you said you didnt want to hear it) where you are covered in your craft and would be welcomed or join CLSC and get the use of 2 fantastic beaches 6miles long, fantastic weekend socials with free food where other X-Sails are used, as there were a fair few of you X-Sailors there the other weekend. I know its not on their doorstep, but neither is the Ho! to me or Pembrey both being 2 hours and 4 hours drive from me but considered my local beaches thats just life.

If you are now going to come back with my customers live at Weston and want to use it things have been pointed out to you quite clearly that you cant use X-Sails etc at Weston

It sounds like you should have done some pre-sales homework to point out places where X-Sails can and cannot be used in their local area before you sold them the equipment as the beach on their doorstep isn't one of them and now you have some customers spitting feathers at you as they will have to travel.

Are you sure about this? The needing to be part of a club to have insurance part.

Couldn't someone just get land yachting cover with SportsCoverDirect and then sail at Weston without being a member of a club? So far I've only seen people state that the council require that people have insurance, not that they are a member of a club.

Thanks for your input Nudge. These guys have been sailing at Weston for years, and are now no longer welcome at the clubs they are/were members of. They asked for my help because the situation is pretty muddled for them. As can be seen earlier in the thread there is conflicting information and advice available both on webpages and in forums. The SWATK information details that their insurance does cover them for Mini-yachts, which is confusing to folk who have been members of that club for years and have been using X-sails or other Mini-yachts or Skatewings etc. The British Land Speedsailing Association (the clue isn't in the name) was originally a national club for Speedsails - a windsurf on wheels - and then also became a national club for blokarts because of a commercial involvement in that brand of Mini-yachts. I have heard they also, at their discretion, allow members who use different brands of Mini-yacht, but I can't confirm that.

If it is confirmed that there are no available options for Weston residents, who previously did have access, then I think they will want to seek a solution with the council. I was asked to ensure that is their only solution.

If you read on Page one Chris mentions the fact that only 3 clubs have access to Weston, that being SWATK Wind n Wheels and BLSA this was put into action by the council

Tom, he wont get far with the council, as they put the 3 clubs in to use the windzone, he needs to try wind and wheels to see if they take xsails, or there is Brean Land Yacht club who do. He isnt being excluded, he just wont be a Swatk member. They are and have always been a KITE club.

Sorry X-Sail it does sound like that is their only solution is to try and get yourself a 4th club access but doesnt sound like you will be in much luck of bending the council, maybe it has to be said as was good whilst it lasted eh, being a mini yacht covered by a purely kite club.

good luck

It does appear to be a tad unfortunate for the mini landyacht sailers, which don't happen to be a specific brand, in that they can not use the beach at Weston.

As a buggier or kitesurfer I could join either SWATK or BKSA without reference to the type of buggy, deck, board or kite I use. However, owning an X-sail, pottie or zooter (all similar craft to Blokarts in terms of size, speed, handling), I would not have this option. Clearly not equitable, but I can understand the council wanting to work via a small number of clubs rather than having to control/police insurance on an individual basis. I can also appreciate why the BLSA would want to restict membership to Blokarts and perhaps maintain the status quo.

As it currently stands I suspect it would be an uphill struggle for non-blokart mini-landyacht users to gain access. It would most likely need a further club (or Wind & Wheels) picking up the insurance arrangements and/or policing to ensure cover, perhaps working with BLSA to open the beach up to more varied, but similar mini-landyachts. Is that likely to happen? Is there is a local nucleus of non-blokart mini-landyachters willing to try and take this forward?

Yes, I have an X-sail (wife uses) and a buggy, and fortunately I can, if I wish, join a local club (Hoylake) or use a council run beach (permits given on proof of insurance) without having to buy a particular brand of buggy/landyacht.

Good luck to anyone willing to try and take this forward!

P.
