andrewjohn
Thought I'd try and get this kitesurfing mallarky cracked, got down the beach not much wind, but thought there'd be enough to practice water starts. In the water, struggling to get the board on as no handle but managed to get my arse out of the water a couple of times despite not really enough wind. So, 10 minutes of this, all's good, having a laugh, then I get bloody Weavered Knew straight away what is was despite not been stung before. Felt like a big needle going into my heel, then a slight sting. So, out of the water, kite packed, up the cliff in five minutes, keep wettie on for (thankfully) 5 minute drive home. And now I'm sat with me foot in fooking hot water. Christ was that painfull when I first put it in. Should have stook to the sand, would have been a nice chilled sesh. Needless to say I shall be buying some boots once any swelling has gone down.
Maro
If anything that's incentive to get up and plainng. Just kidding, I dunno if boots would make that much difference.

Badger
Weaver fish stings are horrible!!!!!! Best cure.... Wee on your foot straight awayIncorrect. Just hot water as the man said. Weaver fish venom is not affected in any way by urine. Jelly fish stings - Now that is different, but only heat will take the sting away from a Weaver. Been there. It is nasty. Steve. ViralEye
"Folklore often suggests the addition of substances to the hot water including urine, vinegar and Epsom salts but this is of limited (if any) value" Sorry my mistake, I think I'm getting confused with Jelly Fish? ianbagley
The hot water doesn't neutralise the sting, it increases the blood flow around the foot, making the venom disperse faster. I got stung last year and could still feel it a month later!
redmark
i feel you pain mate not realy lol being a fisherman come into many encounters with these and had no stings as of yet but i have seen the effects seen big blokes cry nearly
Bex
Be warned there are loads of the little buggers at greatstone and camber.....hard sole bootys good, bare feet bad.....
Will Holt
Stood on one of the little bastards a couple of years ago. The hot water denatures the enzymes within the venom neutralising it. The quicker the better. Took me an hour to get home and hot water on it by that time my foot had swollen to the size of a small football and still could feel it aching if I flexed my foot for a few months after! Nasty stuff everyone gets caught sooner or later though all part of the fun, along with wind watching, girlfriend negotiating and getting ragdolled
br3n
on a non weever fish note, dont try and learn on the water if your underpowered - thats not going to be any fun whatsoever, dont go out maxed but dont go out when theres clearly not enough. Me thinks these are old wives tails. Different types of jelly fish stings require different pain relief methods. Pissing is none that I know of. Just don't tell the tourists ha ha ha. Urine has ammonia content in it which is one of the main treatments proven to aid recovery from jellyfish stings. My mrs never took me up on my offer when she got stung in magaluf a few years back though!
wayne kitesurfer
I got heavily stung last week and found Ralgex cooling PR spray got rid of the itching, worked a treat on the jellyfish stings i encountered, that doesn't mean to say it will work on the tropical ones whose sting seems much more serious. I haven't tried it on a Weaver fish, although i have had a few stings over the years, varying in severity, got a can in the van though for next time. One good thing about it , you don't go home smelling of piss, unless you piss your wetsuit.
