bartiebat1599968741
I don't want one - lets just clear that up! But yesterday I took My GPS out for the 2nd ever time & was quite pleased with my 43mph, though a bit scared with my Flexi tyres in the soft sand & the dunes hurtling towards me, before I really had the chance to get going. I need a bigger beach! Or maybe, I thought, I need to borrow a race buggy. But then that wouldnt stop as quickly as a Flexi bug being heavier, surely? That'd mean Id have even less beach to play with before getting scared & pulling up. How do they work then? Do they accelerate faster? If so why? If they're twice as heavy surely that slows them down? Sorry if the questions are bleeding obvious, but thanks in advance! Karen x
avspider
Karen, Prob best go to a big beach and borrow a big race buggy that's the right size for you, add high wind and small kite and go for it ;-). Yes they are a little slower off the mark, but they are safer at speed
flydad
Yes, they are a lot heavier but as Al says far safer at speed. As well as the extra weight, they also have higher side rails to brace against and a far greater 'foot print' over all so much less likely to flip hence why they are generally thrown side ways to scrub speed off very quickly, do that in the wee buggy and it will catapult you straight out. bartiebat1599968741
So what your saying is I was right in thinking Id probably go faster in my iddy bug on my iddy beaches & there's no secret tech I'm missing? Aww, kinda disappointed now, was hoping for an extra 5mph by not doing anything different! D'oh
Awesome
just ask someone for a go of a big bug you wont be dissapointed ;-)
mikeymustard
Bigger beach, bigger beach! 43mph is pretty darn good in a flexi, how much room dya have on your beach?
youngged
Only ever managed 39.9 in my Flexi at Hoylake and that was with a wide axle but I think the turf tyres slowed me down. Bloody scary going that fast in a flexi though, much nicer in a big comfy arm chair of a race buggy. And yes your right small buggies are much better on small beaches due to the better initial aceleration.
smackay116
My T3 is quite slugish but it can go fast every where so you have to try and keep the speed up around marks and turns etc. But i found out two weeks ago that i can stop from 30mph to 0 in about 5m last time i try and go around a newbee lol kite droped on my lap nearly. If i was in the fleci id have jamp it lol Stu
bartiebat1599968741
You just jump it back to your starting point Stu! No point wasting that valuable run And yeh, the stopping bit did take up more room than I wanted to, partly cos the bit closer to the dunes is soft & I was a bit scared of tipping. It's a really long beach but probably only @ 150m wide & it was onshore. Figure I need a nice cross so I can get the initial speed then do a downwinder along the long bit instead of hurtling towards the dunes. Hurry up October so I can blag a go of race buggy at Black Rock! Cheers folks x Edited June 17, 2011 by bartiebat
Sand-Yeti
You can use our good sized beach, which runs hundreds of Kms inland but it's bit bumpy though. See if you can borrow Fluffywoo's Pink Panther that Giorgio & I built for her. She now lives in the UK and the Pink Panther is with her. The tyres will need grooving to match your nice damp UK conditions. Badger
Hey Bartibat, any speed in a Flexi buggy is far more exciting than the same speed in a race buggy. I still enjoy both for different reasons. Steve.

8015
Fact: The very first SPKA race event was a 2-point pursuit course in a very small space. The guys on flexis and peter lynns always caught the race buggies because they had faster acceleration - hell, I never even got near to full speed within the length of the course! bartiebat1599968741
Don't I need to do a driving test to have a play there? I don't really want the rigmarole of a written & practical test, but as you're there all night it would be quite handy! What time are you starting? You only need to a licence, which is very easy if you are entering an event. your prob best speaking to gaRRy about flying there the weekend ;-)
