MikeDobbs
Hi everyone- This is my first post on the Kite Skating forum of ExtremeKites- I currently kiteboard, buggy and landboard (a very little), but after watching John's video of Spartan on his Powerslides I am seriously thinking of ordering a pair! (If you haven't seen the video you have to check it out: ) Here's my question. I'm in the US, and shipping back and forth to Germany is going to get expensive if I get the size wrong. On the website they say to order a size or so larger than normal, but depending on manufacturer I wear anywhere from a 10 to 11 US. Does anyone who owns these have any comparissons to the sizing of known brands such as Nike Sneakers, Innov8 sneakers, or Vibram 5 fingers? The five fingers would be ideal, since it's such as exact fit. Thanks in advance!
SoutherlyBuster
Welcome to the EK MikeDobbs, Just be aware that the Powerslides George has work fine for well kept grass, but for the longer grass and on the beach I mostly see him on his home made skates (we call them the Wheels of Doom) which have standard landboard size 8inch wheels which are much larger the what he has on his PowerSlides. There is a post floating around the Kite Skates section on sizes and making them. Sorry can't help you with the shoe size though. But if you make them your self using a set of skate boots then you are assured of getting a perfect fit. George should be able to help out with the details, I'll leave that to him, I just stick with my landboarding. Regards, Norman.

MikeDobbs
Thanks guys- I see what you mean about the well-kept grass. Looked up those "wheels of doom" and even found a tutorial for building them from an old pair of rollerblades. Since I've already got one of those, perhaps I'll try that route before I shell out $400 for the Powerslides (although the do look sooooooo cool ) George, do these instructions seem like they would lead to a workable pair of kite skates? http://www.doomwheels.com/articles/buildwod.php
Spartan
Hi Mike sorry I have't responded earlier been so busy with work and a sore back. The article you've posted re making your own skates is where I got the plan for my first skates. Exept for the wheels, the wheels mentioned in that article are not suitable for freestyling. Also cut the rails shorter as its not needed when you add the smaller mountain board wheels. Shorter also makes it easier to pivot and slide into your turns. MikeDobbs
Thanks George- what size wheels do you have on those 8"? I notice that the skates in your pics are much longer than they need to be for the wheels to clear the skate boot- is there a particular length you'd recommend I shoot for? Spartan
Sorry my mistake, they are the old proto types. I've shortened them since then, now there is just enough clearance up to the 8 inch mountain board wheel.
rjang
G'day Awesome post! I have just ordered some Skikes but as an old rollerblader I will have to make myself a set of these!
m.klinge
G'day Awesome post! I have just ordered some Skikes but as an old rollerblader I will have to make myself a set of these! Skikes are quite cool, but the wheeles are quite narrow making them less than ideal for skating on hard packed sand, and I don't think they will take the abuse when you start jumping However for those dry lakes and paddock that seems to be going on forever you guys have (in aus) they're probably great I ended up selling mine again and making my own doomwheeles (But then again we don't have the beforementioned dry lakes and paddock here in Denmark ) //M
