debster
Hi Matzelkite Does the Gold Coast or Ipswich count? I live in Ipswich but often go flying down the Gold Coast. Hard to find other people round who do stunt kite flying. Where do you fly in Brisbane? Cheers Deb

debster
Hey Keith I know what you mean, there just aren't any regular flyers around or for that matter a great many areas to fly in. Overseas they seem to be into much more than here, which I've always found odd considering our climate, don't really know what it is. People still look at me strangely if I say I like stunt kiting because I'm pretty sure none of them realise what's out there and assume I like flying $20 kites from the local hobby store lol. The only contact I have woith other flyers is these kite forums. It would have been great to meet up with some people who had more experience than me when I started but any improvement I've made has been practice or what I could learn through DVD's or on line (Thank God for the internet) I always have problems trying to find anywhere clear areas with sufficient wind in Ipswich, pretty well a lost cause actually and down the coast I have to pick the right time and areas ( no problem with winds) because of all the people around. Lucky I enjoy it so much and perservere. I'd realy love a good area and good breezes to fly in with other people interested in stunt kites, but I'm afraid there aren't too many of us or maybe we just don't know how to find each other. If we tried to organise something Keith I fear we might be the only ones there. I've kind of resigned myself to it being a solo experience which is a shame. Why aren't there more people interested in it in Australia? I'd much rather have my nephews out with me flying than see them sitting in front of a computer all the time. What areas do you fly in in the suburbs you mentioned? Parks? Maybe one day we'll actually have stunt flying clubs? Who knows. Stringburn
Hi there, I also dwell in the fantastic city of Ipswich, I have recently purchased a Prism Quantum - and have no idea how to do any thing fancy with it yet. A few good open parks in Ipswich i use are Limestone, Stallard, and Jim Finimore parks, depending on which way the winds going. Hope this helps out, i may even see you out flying one day. I'm stil waitng to get my buggy and larger kites going.... Cheers - Corin

theflyingmick
Hi, are any of the clubs (eg. Redcliff or Queensland kite club) got any duel liners trick flyers or are they just big single line kite flyers?
matzelkite
Hi Mick, The Queensland Kite Society does fly them but not often, most kite clubs in Brisbane only fly single line kites. There are just a few who fly stunt kites seriously and I am one of them, I fly every week. Cheers.
mrshr3d
Last weekend I bought myself a Prism Nexus after getting hooked having a go of my mates $40 hobby store stunt kite while having a day down at the beach at Kingscliff. Ideally I wanted to start with something a little bigger like the Quantum but budget wouldn't allow it this pay - guess it's an excuse to get more kites later on though hehe! I'm quite keen to try and make it a habit of flying regularly - once a week or fortnight. I live in Algester on the South-side and would prefer to keep my travel for kiting to a max of 30 minutes each way (cost of fuel and all). There is a sports field in walking distance, though the 2 Sundays I have visited it, it was being used for Little Athletics, going to check it out on the Saturday this weekend if the wind is up. Best location I know of at present is the Murarrie Recreation Ground where the Brisbane Kite Festival was held, which is approx 25 minutes from me. Would love to hear any suggestions of other nearby places on the South-side that are good for flying. In the meantime I'll continue to scour the sattelite map in Google Earth for potential locations. matzelkite
Hi Clint, The best consistent winds are found near the coast, I fly at Cleveland, Orminston and Clontarf, sorry you have to travel to get good winds. Your kite you fly will determine the level in which you fly, so if would like to fly stunt kites and learn how to do the tricks talk to Matt or the { grumpy bugger } Jason at Briskites. This is not an add for them but I have only met him wonce [ Matt ] but he knows his stuff. I'm hoping to fly Sat or sunday this weekend at Clontarf after 12 pm to 4 pm.
