  1. Extreme Kites Labour Day Explorers' Weekend Friday March 8th - Monday March 11th Land kiters for two decades have been kiting Waratah Bay, kicking off from the Sandy Point foreshore. This time we're looking at exploring the East side of Shallow Inlet, launching from the Boat Ramp and traversing the east side in to Wilsons Promontory. Having never done this before, anyone joining us is advised to be equipped for all terrain with either Big Foots or MidiXL's. Alternatively having a ski-rope in case you need to pull through some soft patches if on Barrows or Midis may also be a workable option. Route Planned Tides Late afternoon/evening tides, with daylight savings still running we'll be able to kite well in to the evening. Accommodation Options Shallow Inlet Campground - $20/night (Unpowered Sites) Shallow Inlet Caravan Park - $40-$126/night (Unpowered Sites, Powered Sites and Cabins) Wilsons Prom Holiday Park - $65-$315/night (Unpowered Sites, Powered Sites and Cabins) Sandy Point Caravan Park - $55 - $65/night (Unpowered Sites, Powered Sites)

    Content Curators

Extreme Kites over the past month has had an enormous influx of content, the challenge now is to make that content discoverable through different parts of the website. To meet that challenge many hands make light work, and I would like to thank @bakersdozen, @andy666, @Mfwetu and @igeighty for stepping up to help. The first step is for us to work through the 1600+ reviews that now exist on the website and apply the relevant tags and filters so that the reviews can be easily discovered and displayed alongside relevant content. This is a manual process now that each and every individual review is filtered, tagged and saved. The second step is going on a discovery mission and finding reviews in the Forum and moving them to the Reviews section. This is a little trickier but in the end will help centralise all reviews in one location. This is going to be a marathon, not a sprint and I would like to thank the people above for volunteering to help out.
  4. Take the challenge, join the elite survivors.... New competition, if you live to tell the story you get a fancy little badge under your name, a free XK Lanyard + XK Sticker The game is simple, fly the Peter Lynn Waterfoil and if you survive you nominate the next person to fly the kite A) Accept the challenge Fly the kite, nominate the next person. or.... B ) Refuse the challenge You may choose your fate... 1: Have your avatar changed for 30 days by the person who nominated you. 2: Have your quip (words under your avatar) for 30 days changed by the person who nominated you. 3: Lose 100 posts off your total. Small Print... The kite will be setup for handles, however a bar is also optional. You can hand it to the person you nominate the next time you meet them, you can mail it to whomever you nominate if you choose. Whom you nominate, how close or how far they are is completely up to you Large Print... I nominate @igeighty More Waterfoil photos by Adrian DeGroot

Footy Grandfinal long weekend 2017 at Sandy Point Vic The tide times are awesome for using the main beach this weekend so hopefully the wind gods will be kind and provide the right amount of wind, at the right time and in the right direction. This event is diferent to previous years so please read on: You will need to organise your own accomodation there will be no group booking of houses. You can contact the Sandy Point Caravan park on 9998 4462 or by email sandyphpark at bigpond.com. As of the 15th May they still had some sites. The advantage of this park is that it is straight accross the road from the beach and next to the shop for anything you forgot to bring. It was old but ok when we stayed a few years ago but can be crowded. Other options are Warratah Bay Caravan Park. As of the 15th May they had a handful of powered sites and plenty of unpowered sites or another caravan park a little further away such as Foster or Toora. Or get a group together and book your own house - try the local realestate agent or one of the common booking sites. It is up to you to decide where to stay and arrange it. There will be a group dinner out in Fish Creek on the Friday night at a venue to be confirmed. If you want to be included in the booking please reply in the Footy Grand Final thread with the number of people to be included in the booking. Weather permitting there will be a group BBQ on Saturday night at the BBQ's at the back of the community center (accross the road from the caravan park behind the shops and tennis courts). You will need to bring your own meat, drinks and something to share with everyone for example a salad or dessert. Closer to the date please post up what you are bringing so we don't get too many double ups. Hope to see you all there. Kathleen and Nigel

  13. Over the past year Extreme Kites has grown considerably, for the first time in a long time Land Kiting especially in Australia has started to see a small resurgence and growth. The aim of Extreme Kites is to give kiters a place online to share their knowledge, experience and socialise online which we hope in turn leads to people building friendships. We've found the more people we reach via the website and welcome in to our community the more these individuals become our friends and meet us on a beach. Last year I completely changed platforms for the website to set ourselves up to be able to grow the community, this resulted in John Holgate taking over as Community Administrator which has given me free time to focus on site development in my spare time, the results have been incredibly positive. With the new website and amazing contributions from our community members we've arrested the overall decline in kiting numbers in many of our groups simply through a growth of interest. We now have some more plans in the pipeline, some new features that I have been working on over the past six months which we hope will create a larger knowledge pool, a more valuable resource and a continued growth of interest leading to more friends with kites flying with us. Up until this point the costs of hosting Extreme Kites, Software Licensing, Prizes and Giveaways (with exception to the first competition) have all been funded from my pocket. This area of our costs over the next few years I can't really see changing, however to implement the new features planned now requires Extreme Kites to commit to spending money on a monthly basis. It's not a huge amount of money, however it is a considerable monthly amount and my plan has always been to see Extreme Kites sustain itself so that if ever in the future I completely move on the current group of Administrators at that time can continue to operate a self-sustainable website. The finance needed to bring these new features to life and sustain the viability of funding those features is a step in this direction. These changes aren't about to deface the website and turn the whole place in to a flashing disco of distractions I'll be placing advertising in the right sidebar, and three sections in the main body of the website. Unlike some websites charging upwards of $550 to $750 a banner, we'll be pricing them at $49/month. The banners will be small in filesize so we don't slow down general page loads. For those vehemently against seeing banners we'll offer a membership level for a couple of dollars a month that strips the advertisements, or alternatively just use a free adblocker (which many do already). If you're a Store Owner, Manufacturer or someone looking to advertise you can purchase a banner location, upload your artwork and publish it all through our Webstore located here.
