Hi all,
Thought I'd give you a review of my new and shiny Flexi Rage 4.7 in the sexy new Samba colour scheme.
Picked it up from the totally top Airbossworld shop, now located at their new Airfield site - WOW! looking forward to some fun up there.
Par for the course though, brand new kite to play with . . . . No wind. Well almost, there was just enough to get her all laid out and rigged to fly and get her off the ground for a few minutes at a time, not enough to buggy with though.
For those new to Flexifoil kit I'll give you a run down on the basics. The quality of these kites is superb, down to every last detail. The kite bag/ rucksack is made of a heavy duty canvas type material with logos reflecting the the kite livery and informing you of size appropriate to the kite in it. It also has two flaps that buckle down where you can put your control bar ( if that's your option) or kite stake or pads/ gloves etc., The pack is comfortable to wear as it has well padded straps and sits well on your back.
Right then, inside, you get your kite, handles (my option), colour co-ordinated and numbered lines, instruction book and a sheet of stickers and you also get a numbered card to register on line and get the chance to win a 2.5 rage too!
Now I hadn't seen the Samba colour scheme till I picked it up and to be honest it blew me away, the colours are so vibrant. Royal blue in the main with green and white towards the trailing edge in the usual Rage design. The flexifoil logos are in a gold foil effect and look stunning with the sun on the kite. I was going for the Midnight colour originally but it seems they've stopped that range now, I'm sure that's upset quite a few people as it was really cool, I'd like to have seen the end of the Acid rather than Midnight, but hey that's only my opinion.
Rigging the kite is really easy. The canopy comes with a card attached to the bridle lines explaining what goes where, basically, your lines are numbered and your bridle on the kite is numbered, i.e; 1 goes to 1, 2 goes to 2 etc, etc. to make it doubley easy they are also colour co-ordinated.
So, laying out the kite I get to notice the difference in the new 'SORA' material used. It is very smooth to the touch and is apparently more durable and hard wearing. You probably won't tell until you compare one to the other, I got my 3.5 rage out and when next to each other there is a marked difference with the 'SORA' feeling more slick.
Well it's been a couple of weeks now since I picked it up and I got to get a session in one evening and the kite flys so sweetly, still wasn't loads of wind and I just flew static but wow! Power in abundance and it swallows up gusts and lets you get on with it without worrying if you're gonna get spanked by a wayward lull then gust. I fly with a lot of brake (there are 3 settings on the rage, I fly on the top knot) it allows me to turn the kite very quickly with minimum input, it works well on my 3.5 and proved no different on this 4.7. Even in low wind you can spin it on it's own axis quickly. It covers the window edge to edge with absolutely no luffing and gives you loads of confidence. Really looking forward to getting in the bug with it.
So, 259 quid, not a budget kite. However for the build, design, alround quality and durability, you get, as they say, what you pay for. In my opinion you're not going to get better than Flexifoil, I've got Ozones as well, it's a close run thing but (for me) Flexi edges it. You get a powerful, quick and agile low lift traction kite that fills you with confidence allowing you to concentrate on buggying/boarding and leaves you safe in the knowledge that when you do crash it it'll bounce right back and give you it's best over and over again.
Cheers all, safe and happy flying,
Ian
