  2. It does appear to be a tad unfortunate for the mini landyacht sailers, which don't happen to be a specific brand, in that they can not use the beach at Weston. As a buggier or kitesurfer I could join either SWATK or BKSA without reference to the type of buggy, deck, board or kite I use. However, owning an X-sail, pottie or zooter (all similar craft to Blokarts in terms of size, speed, handling), I would not have this option. Clearly not equitable, but I can understand the council wanting to work via a small number of clubs rather than having to control/police insurance on an individual basis. I can also appreciate why the BLSA would want to restict membership to Blokarts and perhaps maintain the status quo. As it currently stands I suspect it would be an uphill struggle for non-blokart mini-landyacht users to gain access. It would most likely need a further club (or Wind & Wheels) picking up the insurance arrangements and/or policing to ensure cover, perhaps working with BLSA to open the beach up to more varied, but similar mini-landyachts. Is that likely to happen? Is there is a local nucleus of non-blokart mini-landyachters willing to try and take this forward? Yes, I have an X-sail (wife uses) and a buggy, and fortunately I can, if I wish, join a local club (Hoylake) or use a council run beach (permits given on proof of insurance) without having to buy a particular brand of buggy/landyacht. Good luck to anyone willing to try and take this forward! P.
  3. I was there last Tuesday and tide was just after the springs peak. High tide mark was about 30 metres lower than the speed signs along the beach, except were you got to the stream. Quite a bit more room there. If no one else out (flyers or public) you could have managed a fly even then at high tide, but wouldn't have been great. As we're now in to neaps at high tide there should be quite a bit more room, but I can't say how much. For me in my big bug it would have to be pretty much on-shore. If I go on Sunday I'd be aiming to get there v early before the beach get squeezed. Edit - Looking at the Easytide predictions and working back I reckon High Tide last Tuesday was at least a 4.7m. Not sure if that helps
  4. Any wind anywhere for land based kitey/saily play this weekend? BRS on Monday maybe? Need to get out?
  5. I hoping to get out tomorrow. Anyone else going to be in the neighbourhood?
  6. I might try for tomorrow. Not definite as full of cold at moment.
  7. Try here SportsGuard - sports insurance, sports cover, adventure sports insurance, multisports insurance, sports and leisure cover Not taken insurance out with them (yet), but were competitive last time I looked. Edit - I'd only looked at the bronze cover. Don't know how they compare for loss of earnings.
  8. Good to see you applying those transferable skills ...I just ponder what you originally developed the technique for:eek:
  9. Did you use a catheter or just rely on your drysuit Nice one
  10. I think all 3 are probably relatively low lift kites, so you'll have to work them hard to get airborne. I've had beamers (not latest version which may be better) and Busters and out of the two the latter was superior both in flying and quality. In fact I've still got Busters which I fly now and again.
  11. Ideally rope needs to be none stretch (pre stretched) and hard wearing. Alternative source is a yacht chandlers. When cutting remember to allow for the length taken up by the knots. Better going a little long as you can always shorten by re-knotting when out flying and then tidy up with knife later on.
  12. Big kites were the order of the day today, with sea breeze helping out at around 3:30. Don't think I've seen so many razorshells! A few low res pics taken on phone here:- IMG00069-20100523-1719 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! Paul. PS - Nick. They say natural yoghurt helps with sunburn
  13. R6-RS 10mm inner 22mm outer now ordered from A TEE B shop. Cheers Dave
